Summerhouse Plantation

Summerhouse Plantation

Directly above the mansion, Summerhouse Plantation is very close to the car parks on either side of the mansion.

Access from Kennel Lodge Road.

Saxon Style Stonework  If you drive, cycle or walk to the Estate by Kennel Lodge Road you pass this small saxon style piece of stonework when the road turns sharp left immediately before you reach the mansions car parks.

At the sharp turn a wide (gated) track continues up the hillside from Kennel Lodge Road.

This steep at times path runs along the east side of the plantation and through the red deer enclosure. With good views down of the red deer park and a small dew pond (photo above) as you climb.

Dew Pond and Red Deer

The path runs up to and through another car park, which you can access from the Clifton Lodge entrance, then continues on up to the New Barn Wood. I must admit the felling has improved the view of the fattest oak below. its close to the mansion car parks and the photo was taken taken from this path.
